• CLIL in vocational education - CLIL, short for Content and Language Integrated Learning, is a special form of bilingual teaching. I see it as both a new way of teaching the subject and an additional way of teaching the foreign language. I am committed to further disseminating CLIL in VET and to supporting and networking the CLIL teacher community.
  • Computer Assisted Language Learning - Learning languages with computer support, alone, as a couple or in a group. I expect that computer-assisted language learning combined with video chat will in the future have a significant foreign language learning in adult education.
  • Explainable Artificial Intelligence - Expert systems should justify their decisions and thus create more confidence in artificial intelligence. This research branch is dedicated to a recent DARPA Challenge. Using explainable artificial intelligence I want to create a program that explains patterns in high-dimensional medical data.
  • E-learning - Digitalization is driving e-learning forward, especially in adult education, amongst other things through the now high number of high-quality videos from publishers and universities. I am particularly interested in what can be meaningfully automated and what can not.
  • Health Informatics - Information technology for more healthy years of life. This applies to software systems in hospitals, doctors' offices, pharmacies, medical devices, pharmaceutical companies, medical research, in the form of patient smartphone apps, etc., all in compliance with strict data protection and data security requirements.
  • Machine Learning - Speech recognition, image recognition, autonomous driving, computer gamers beating world champions, etc. clearly show the success of this area. Essential to me is that machine learning relies on large amounts of medical data, and the like. a. Images can be applied and patterns are discovered that a person can not realistically discover. I want to create programs that can find and explain patterns.
  • Web Real-Time Communication - An open standard for videoconferencing, data transfer, chat and desktop sharing. Although all this was already possible through Skype, it gets a new quality through WebRTC because it is embedded in the browser without a plug-in and is programmable. For example, it can be used to create a language learning application that allows a voice coach to add video when needed.
